The feature photo is from a tiny sweater I knit for my niece’s girl.
Here is my “live model” who gets cuter every day. The sweater is a bit big for her now but I gave it to her in the heat of summer, hoping she might wear it this fall. Looks like it just might fit!
I purchased contrasting yarn, one a solid blue and the other variegated.
I have found through trial and error that making a swatch for accurate measurements is vital. That and having a knitting instructor from Ireland who sets me straight every once in awhile. Smile.
I changed to second yarn color at chest. This particular dress was improvised from a sweater pattern I found on Ravelry called “Keams cardigan“ (find it here for free). I’ve knit it in the round on circular needles.
As I knit this from top down I thought it might be cute as a dress, so I just kept on knitting. Notice the safety line as I was making it up from here on down.
I like how the ribbing on the waist makes it stand out a bit and give it some shape. After the waist, I add increases to each side until the bottom. Finished it in 4 rows of double stockinette stitch.
Sweater number two this summer for my other niece’s daughter
Here is my second “live model” (she’s adorable although I may be biased with these two.) I wanted her to stay warm all winter. She immediately responded by wrapping her arms around herself and saying, “it’s SO warm. I am always cold!” Definitely made me feel good about it.

Here is the yarn I found at Walmart and the swatch. Done on large cicular needles from a free pattern called “Brink” sweater by Heidi May.
