Baby sweater set for a maternity hospital in Portugal.

Along with knitting sweaters for my niece’s children, I had a good summer teaching a few of my favorite people how to knit. My mother, Kay, knit for several years some time ago, and has picked it up again. We enjoyed learning from each other and continue to meet online as I travel. She has knit some lovely baby blankets for a couple of local women having babies. Also, I have started a young gal (whom I babysat for several years) who is near to my heart.

I always enjoy returning to the baby sets I send to a maternity hospital in Portugal.

Pastel Baby Set – sweater, hat and booties

This one came from a good friend of mine, Beth, who gave me the yarn from a baby sweater she finished. It was SO lovely, I just had to knit it. You can purchase it on Ravelry for a small fee here. Thanks Beth!

It is knit top down and has some yarn overs to make the pattern on the body of the sweater. The hat and booties I did from other free patterns I found on the web. It is quite straight forward and I learned how to knit on 4 needles for the sleeves since they were so tiny. The trick is to put the yarn on 3 needles and have 1 more needle for the knitting. OOPS-learned the hard way) Smiling.

fun knitting bag

A fun new knitting bag my mother ordered to keep her supplies.

extra baby hats and knitting bag
With some baby hats. I really like the size of this bag from Amazon. It is easy to wash, carry and fits at least one project with all needed accessories.

Kay has successfully knit several baby blankets since she began just a few months ago. She sent me the beginning of a tricky one she is tackling called a “4 ball basket weave blanket”. I am incredibly proud of how quickly she has taken up this hobby again.

Mary Maxim kit

This lap blanket I knit for my mother from a Mary Maxim kit. It isn’t the pattern that comes with it, but I loved the colors. Improvised pattern.

ideas for leftover yarn

I found this on facebook and really like it for leftover yarn. It has ideas for what you might make with extra yarn and how much is needed.

Practicing making an I-cord edge for this baby blanket. Not too hard and has an interesting finished look but you can see how it pulls. I will have to relax my knitting somehow. This is an improvised pattern with leftover yarn and not my best work but wanted to include what I am learning.
