Most of places we are staying are only two or three hours apart, so getting from place to place is pretty easy. We booked most places through VRBO or Airbnb, so generally have good cooking facilities and space to spread out. (A side note- our new Chase Sapphire credit card gives 4.5% back on travel related expenses, and VRBO, AirBNB and the like qualify. A nice bonus for extensive travelers.)

The Lake Ohau place has an older cabin feel, every wall is wood plank siding. But lots of space for us to spread out and get organized. Two bedrooms, two bunkrooms, a game room/ping pong table, and family room. Best part is the view from the front deck of Lake Ohau and the mountains behind.

Lake Ohau, hiking start
We’ve got several moderate hikes planned for Lake Ohau area, and today is the first one. Feels like the true start of new wandering lives together!
Lake Ohau, trail
Not the dramatic views we are expecting later on the trip, but an average view in New Zealand beats a good view in most places. Very pleasant hiking.
